Why should we recycle?

Products made from recycled materials use less energy than virgin materials during the production, extraction and refining processes. This benefits the environment and significantly reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG). By recycling aluminum, you save 95% in energy costs, steel 74% and paper 64%.

Recycling saves landfill space and avoids the need to site new disposal facilities.

Recycling of paper and composting of organics reduces methane gas generation at landfills. Methane is 21 times as potent a GHG as carbon dioxide.

Recycling can also create local jobs and help the local economy.

Recycling slows the consumption of natural resources.

Electronics can be recycled at the BCRC managed HHW events (6 Northshire towns) in the spring and fall of every year or with Good Point Recycling.
