The Bennington County Regional Commission assists municipalities with solid waste planning upon request.

Eight of the municipalities (Arlington, Dorset, Manchester, Pownal, Rupert, Sandgate, Shaftsbury, and Sunderland Vermont) are included in the Regional Solid Waste Implementation Plan, while the remaining municipalities have created their own individual Solid Waste Implementation Plans. Responsibility for implementing the tasks outlined in these plans lies with each municipality.
